Samsung Locks Horns with Apple on the American Soil with the Galaxy S4

Apple’s iPhone series are the most favored handsets in the U.S., and Samsung has been working hard to grab that position for a while. The two manufacturers openly war against each other in the American markets. In fact, Apple had filed a case on Samsung last year claiming that Samsung’s devices were a rip off of the iPhone and iPad. Apple won the Patent lawsuit and won a hefty $1.5 billion in damages.

The company launched another lawsuit against the Samsung soon after, which it won again. In fact, it looked as if Apple were trying to get most Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S2 and S3 banned from the country over patent issues.

Samsung is a highly successful Korean company, and its Galaxy brand of smartphones have broken all sales records to place the company on the number one position worldwide. The Galaxy S2 and S3 have really great features. In fact, both devices were launched originally on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, and Samsung has lately updated them with the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

With this move, Samsung has not only given great customer service to its existing customers, but also ensured customer loyalty for repurchasing a Samsung device on their next purchase as well. Of course, most of its competitors such as Sony, LG and HTC have also released the latest Android update to their customers’ devices.

The latest device to be launched on the Samsung Galaxy S series is the Galaxy S4. It is one of the most eagerly awaited smartphones for this year. Expected to beat its predecessors Galaxy S3 and S2 by a huge margin in terms of speed and general specifications, the Galaxy S4 is truly a great innovation.

The device will be launched at an event in New York, USA on 14th March, 2013. The news was posted on Samsung’s Twitter page with a very catchy poster. One can see an open challenge being thrown at Apple with Samsung’s launch plans for the Galaxy S 4.

Samsung’s devices offer great features and are moderately priced when compared with Apple’s devices. The American giant is known for its fabulous device, which is highly coveted, even with their hefty price tag. Apple’s iPhone is the best device ergonomically speaking and has the best hardware inside. Samsung’s smartphones could never match up to iPhone’s performance or design, but the Galaxy S4 has all the right ingredients to threaten Apple’s position.

A brief look at Galaxy S 4’s specs reveals a 5 inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution at 440 ppi pixel density. Running on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean platform, the device will be powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon processor assisted by the integrated Mali-T658 GPU, and 2GB of RAM, which is the latest Snapdragon chipset, and promises great speed and performance. The device is rumored to have a 13 MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.

Samsung devices had been getting redundant in terms of design, specifications and even innovation for a while. This is can be dangerous in a market where innovation and differentiation is the key to survival.

The Galaxy S 4 seems to be Samsung’s response to show it hasn’t slipped into complacency. However, we’ll get confirmation on that only on 14th March, the day of the big release!

How to Root Galaxy S2 ICS 4.0.3 Using ODIN and SuperOneClick

This blog post and the associated video shows you how to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 Android smartphone which has loaded with ICS 4.0.3 using ODIN and a useful software called SuperOneClick. To satrt the rooting process, you've to download these three files from the links provided.

1. CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip - Download

2. Odin 1.85 - Download

3. SuperOneClick - Download

Make sure you have the Android debugger (SDK developer kit) running (If you're not sure how to install and run SDK developer kit, refer this post). Also the the USB drivers for your phone must be installed. After downloading those files, extract contents of 2 & 3 (Odin and SuperOneClick) into a folder. 

STEPS:

1. Enable USB debugging by going to Settings > Applications > Development on your phone.

2. Turn Off the handset and switch on into download mode. For this pressVol Down + HOME + Power buttons together.

3. Once it boot into download mode, open odin by double clicking  Odin3 v1.85.exe and connect the USB cable between your PC and phone.

4. In odin, click PDA and browse the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip that you've downloaded, also uncheck the Re-partition option the odin window.

5. Click Start and the process will be completed in few seconds. When the phone is rebooting, close odin and open SuperOneClick.

6. When the phone is booted to normal, click Root.

CyanogenMod 10 Beta 1 For Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570 Smart Phone

It's always nice to see development for galaxy mini or pop s5570 smartphone moving at a rapid pace. This low end handset from Samsung is once again up to date with latest android software, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system, thanks to the courtesy of xda developers. Yesterday, TheWhisp and his team introduced CyanogenMod 10 Beta 1 based on Jelly Bean for galaxy mini s5570 smartphone. The development for Jelly Bean based custom rom for galaxy mini was initiated few weeks ago when Google released the source code of Android 4.1.1. With the release of the source code for Jelly Bean OS, many developers community around the web started compiling latest android builds for their handset. 

Jelly Bean is the latest Android 4.1.1 software announced during the Google I/O event held back on June 2012. At the event the search giant also announced it's own branded Nexus 7 tablet for a price as low as $199 which runs on Android 4.1.0. While Jelly Bean is an small upgrade to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, it has got some huge improvements in overall functioning of the system for efficient and effective ram management improving performance and battery life by huge percentage. Project Butter and Google Now are two special features introduced with latest version that improve the overall user experience in any android handset.

Now coming back to the topic, Jelly Bean for galaxy mini comes as an unofficial version of CM10 and is already in Beta 1 stage of development. With this release the developer has tried to improve many aspects to create a usable Jelly Bean update. However, due to low specs of our handset, many things are still not working on this rom including Deep Sleep (which means less battery life), proximity sensor, camera and HQ video playback. Rest things are supposed to work fine but, you might also find few other minor bugs. You are also likely to experience some lags within the rom, so, it's recommended to overclock your handset by substantial frequency for smooth performance.

CyanogenMod CM7.2 Best For Samsung Galaxy Ace

For about a month I was searching for a decent cyanogen mod custom rom for my Samsung galaxy ace GT-5830. I tried many forums and websites, all suggesting even cyanogenmod 9 with android 4 ice-cream sandwich (ICS) but people complains about it as those were buggy in nature. Finally I found a good make for my Ace which is CM 7.2 KANG-signed ROM release from Xda-developers. I applied the file to my ace and it worked like a charm. No lags or installation problems was there and the process was smooth.

Here's a simple tutorial shows how to upgrade to your Galaxy ace to Android 2.3.7 via cyanogenmod 7.2 rom. Its not required to have root access to do a ROM change but its nice to have root access as most of the android apps works well if your device have root. if you're in official android here's how to root ace.

This method wont work unless you've android version  2.3.* . So if your phone is old and still in froyo, you need to update to android 2.3 first.

 Notice: Please backup all your contacts, messages call logs using any of the backup apps from android market. (My method - Use export contacts to a file .vcf and save in sd card, SMS Backup & Restore app for text messages and Call Logs Backup & Restore app for backing up call logs)

Do this at your own risk.!

Step 1 - Install ClockWorkMod(CWM) on S5830 Samsung Galaxy Ace 

CWM is a recovery tool for android phone which should be installed before rom change. It allows to recover the stoch rom. 

• Download recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip from this link.
• Copy the file on to sd card.
• Switch off the device.
• Reboot by pressing Home+Power button and then release only the power button.
• Now you'll have a menu. Scroll using volume buttons and select apply update from sd card. choose the zip CWM zip file. [ center menu button for OK]
• After the process completed reboot your phone.

Install CyanogenMod7 CM7 on Galaxy Ace S5830

1. Download cyanogenmod 7.2 zip file (update-23-01-12-cm-7.2.0-RC0-Ga..zip) from here. [95.7 MB]

2. Copy the file to sd card.

3. Switch off the phone completely.

4. Reboot the device into CWM recovery by pressing Home+Power button and then release only the power button.

5. Wipe out all the data by choosing wipe data/factory reset. Scroll and press yes.

6. Similarly wipe the cache partition by selecting wipe cache partition.

7. Now goto Install Zip from sdcard and select the CM 7.2 zip file that you've downloaded.

8. Wait few seconds and that's it. reboot your phone. Have fun.!

• Turn off your phone and enter the recovery mode

• To enter recovery mode Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down button + Power Button till the time your phone restarts.
• Select ‘Install ZIP from SD card’ and then select ‘Choose ZIP from SD card’ Select File”Downloaded file from official thread”

• Wait for 7-8 minutes it would get flashed and reboot your phone and check the firmware details

Update Galaxy S3 to Android Ice cream Sandwich

Finally, SAMSUNG Galaxy S2 GT I9100 users has something big from Samsung. They can now update their smartphone to the official Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 via KIES as well as  over-the-air (OTA). Currently, the phone is running on Gingerbread which seems to be outdated by the arrival of newer phones in the market with latest Android OS. The update download size is obviously bigger size (220.31 MB) so do not attempt to upgrade if the internet connection is too slow.

How to Root Galaxy Ace Android 2.3.6 DDKQ8

Many Samsung Galaxy ace users had complaints about rooting their phone after upgrading to android 2.3.6 Gingerbread DDKQQ8 firmware as their phone is not being rooted applying the normal update zip file for ace. but here's anew update that should root your device without any problems. I tried it myself on my ace and it worked properly. 

For those who are unfamiliar with rooting process, follow these simple steps to root your phone loaded with android 2.3.6

Note: if you're not sure about rooting, its better not to root it. There's two reasons for not to root your phone. One is the normal unrooting patch may not be work for this root. I'm still searching for it but there's still no luck. second reason is more common, as everyone says :ROOTING VOIDS WARRANTY.

Steps to root Galaxy ace GT- S5830.


1. Download this update.zip file(includes root information for specific devices - less than one MB)
2. Copy it to you phone's memory card.
3. Turn off your device. press Power+Home buttons simultaneously so that your phone will be switched ON to maintenance mode.
4. You'll see a list of options. Scroll up/down using the volume keys and select "apply update from SD card" using Home key.
5. Browse for the zip file that you've copied to memory card and press Home key to select. The update will be installed in seconds. (If you're unable to scroll through all your folders or files, its convenient to put the zip file in a folder starting with name "A". eg - ANDROID )
6. Reboot your phone. That's it. You're now a super user, access the super user application from menu.

How to speed up my Galaxy Ace UI (TIPS)

Samsung Galaxy Ace is one of the popular phone in galaxy series. But this mid-range android smartphone lacks RAM as it only holds 278 MB of usable memory. 

After upgrading my galaxy ace to its newest android version 2.3.6, the RAM usage is at its highest and it started slowing down and lags a lot. But I found some tips to improve the speed of user interface (UI) at least the file manager. ( For NON ROOT users.)

1. Find and remove unwanted background apps.

Applications that are running in background can be found by exploring Settings > Applications > Running Services. Some services are cached which can be found by clicking menu key and "show cached processes".

Take a note of unwanted apps that are running in background. Usually there are apps like Facebook, Skype etc. Remove if you're not using them really. You can also temporarily quit these apps from memory by selecting that application and clicking 'Stop'.

2. Disable Animations.

Other tip that you should try  is to disable all animation effects from the menu system of the software. 

To do this goto Settings > Display > Animations to 'No Animations'. According to me this speeded up the file manager and messaging apps significantly.

3. Remove Unused widgets from Home screen.

Remove unused widgets like weather widget, clock from the home screen.

How to update Galaxy Ace to Android 2.3.6 Official

Yes, our Samsung galaxy ace GT 5830 is getting another android update. This time the update lets your phone to have Android 2.3.6 Official Indian version DDKQ8. If your phone is already updated to  2.3.4 DDKQ6, you should have an option under about phone in settings to update your galaxy ace to android 2.3.6 over your phone itself. if you still have froyo or basic gingerbread, use kies PC software to update your phone to latest firmware. As most of the ace users, updated to 2.3.4 DDKQ6, here's how to update your phone from Samsung software update option.

• By this method, Kies or PC never needed. All you need is a working internet connection - I recommend WiFi broadband. Never try update on GPRS/Edge, i'm sure it will freeze halfway.
• Turn WiFi on. Goto Settings > About Phone > Software update. touch Update. (assuming you're updated to 2.3.4 DDKQ6 and you 're signed in to Samsung account. If you doesn't have a samsung account, create one easily under 'Samsung account'.)

• This will find update for your phone. Click 'Download'. Update is around 14.46 MB. It'll be downloaded to your phone with speed depending on your connection.

• After downloading update, a window will pop-up to ask you install the update or do it later. Click Install. The phone will now rebooted and it'll take around 30 minutes or more to install update completely. Sometimes the progress bar will not seem to move but you'll get installed it successfully. 

• The phone will be started automatically after installing the update. You'll be welcomed with the new lock screen just like Galaxy S2.
