March 14 is going to be an interesting day in the mobile phone world. Samsung is all set to unveil their Galaxy S4 in New York on that day, and now there is an incoming report from tech2 that they’ve been invited by XOLO to an event where it is to announce something it calls “the Fastest Smartphone Ever”. The Intel-powered device will be announced on March 14 in Goa.
The invites have already been sent out to the media along with some hints about the SoC. The handset will be powered by an Intel processor, which will most likely to be an Intel Clover Trail+ CPU. The Clover Trail + was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year.
According to the image on the invite, the device will feature a button on the top of the phone beside the 3.5mm headset jack. The Android version on the device looks to be skinned.
Intel’s Clover Trail+ CPU will be released in three versions: the 2.0GHz Z2580, the 1.6GHz Z2560, and the 1.2GHz Z2520. All of them include two PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPUs, resulting in a large performance boost. The graphics chip uses a core that can be clocked up to 533MHz using boost mode to further augment graphics performance.
The new Atom platform will support full HD resolutions up to 1900 x 1200 pixels, and support HSPA+ 42Mbps connectivity. LTE on the other hand though is not supported by the Clover Trail+ series. Apart from that, the chips also supports two cameras; the primary camera support is capped off at 16M, while the secondary or front-facing camera can be a 2-megapixel unit at the most. Intel claims that the camera can shoot up to 15 frames per second in burst mode.
