Japanese telecom operator Willcom has launched ‘Phone Strap 2 WX06A’, which is being raved as the world’s smallest and lightest phone. The phone measures just 32 × 70 × 10.7 mm and weighs a mere 32 grams. It’s a candy-bar handset that is designed to strap-on to another phone, to be used as a companion handset. The predecessor of this phone was 0.2mm thinner than the succeeding version we’re seeing here, but since this is succeeding the previous one, it can still be considered as the smallest phone in the market as of now, and the lightest too. The previous record was held by Xun Chi 138.
This little phone packs in a 1-inch display, supports text based email and has an on-board infrared sensor (to exchange contacts). The phone does lack a camera, and for obvious reasons. Its small sized battery packs enough juice to power the phone for 2 hours of talktime and 300 hours of standby time. A movable antenna is included for better network reception, and perhaps ‘nostalgic reception’ too. Alright, that was corny.
The phone is being released as a Japan-only handset, and only 12,000 of these would be manufactured in pink, white and black. Pricing is not known, but does it really matter?
