Here's an Android app that lets you to control entire windows computer from your phone. Sounds interesting?. I personally use this kind of applications as a media remote control while listening to songs on my laptop/PC. However you can not only change the songs but it control almost all your functions of your PC. All you need is an Android phone in Froyo or newer OS and a PC/Laptop with WiFi router /Bluetooth. The following steps will let you to control your notebook using the Unified Remote application which is a very simple but feature-filled Android-PC remote.
For this to work, you need a client app app runs on your device as well as a Unified Remote Server App runs on your computer. Please notice that currently Unified remote only works with Windows OS. If you're on Mac or linux, there are numerous other remote control applications available. The application has a free version and Full version. The full version supports voice commands and can avail remotes from the publishers while the free version limits both. However the its enough for us use most of its features.
Steps to setup Unified remote
1. Download the Unified Remote Server App to your PC (1.23 MB) and install.
2. Download Unified Client app for your android device from Google Play and install.
3. Open the installed PC application. You should see the remote server starts automatically and it run on the background even if you close it.
4. Open the client application on your phone.Make sure that the Bluetooth connectivity of your laptop and phone is turned on and it both should be paired. To control a Laptop its convenient to use Bluetooth rather than WiFi/3G. In the home screen, click Preferences > Server, click to Add and select Manual. Choose server type as Bluetooth and choose the Bluetooth host from the paired devices. and click save. You're almost done.5. In the application home screen, click Remotes and choose any one of the available remotes. In the free version of this application, you can get the following remotes
- Basic input (Mouse and Keyboard)
- File manager
- Navigation
- Media remote control (For changing songs, volume, play pause etc)
