HTC has announced its latest Android flagship smartphone called the HTC One. The device is a successor of the One X family of devices from HTC and follows the company’s tradition of awing fans with mighty specs. The HTC One does innovate in a couple of key areas in hopes of having an edge over the competition and is made of an aluminum unibody to perfect its stunning looks .
The device sports a 4.7-inch LCD display, and is claimed to be “bright, crisp, and beautiful” from all angles. The screen is optically bonded and features a full 1080p resolution, making up for a whopping pixel density of 468ppi. This clearly makes it the king in terms of pixel density and brushes aside recently announced phones such as the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z.
One of the most interesting features introduced in HTC One is its camera capabilities. A custom-made imaging sensor with enlarged pixels that can absorb roughly three times more light than those inside a conventional 8-megapixel camera is included to give the camera an edge over other smartphones. The ‘UltraPixels’, as the company calls them, increases the low-light performance of the camera, however they limit the resolution of any photos you take with the HTC One to 4MP. The HTC One includes an optical image stabilization (OIS) system just like the one included in Nokia’s Lumia 920, which seems like its direct competitor as far as smartphone cameras are concerned. The OIS system is Gyroscope-based, and the multi-axis OIS is available for both the front- and rear-facing cameras. The front-camera is also capable of ultra-wide angle shots, just like the one on the HTC Windows Phone 8X.
The camera features are enhanced on the software side by including a HDR video mode, an expanded photo editing suite, and a new HTC Zoe photo option. Enabling HTC Zoe option captures five frames before the shutter is pressed, plus another 15 after it is, giving you a total of 20 photos to choose from as well as the ability to create some amateur stop-motion animation. It also records a 3-second video clip alongside the pictures.
On the audio front, HTC claims the One has “the best audio experience of any mobile phone”. HTC BoomSound is the name which it has chosen to give to the new improved sound system. The system includes two front-facing stereo speakers, Beats Audio integration and a dual-microphone HDR recording option. The front-facing stereo speakers have the largest sound chambers on a phone as of yet.
The custom Android UI has been completely overhauled and been named as Sense 5. The most noticeable change in the user interface is something called BlinkFeed — an aggregator for news, information, and social feeds that will double up your new homescreen.
The HTC One will be available in over 85 countries and 185 operators across the world from March. No word on when the phone will launch in India and what its price would be here when it finally lands.
